Are you a secret blogger?

September 25th, 2008 at 06:37 am

Well, I am. By "secret blogger" I mean that I have not told anyone about my blog... not family, not friends, not even my DH, DS, or DDs, the closest people in my life. It's not that I've written anything I would be embarrassed for family or friends to read. To me, it's about the freedom in the anonymity of my blog... I can write about anything and everything... I have "blog mates" who understand my interest in finances. By being a "secret blogger," I have no pressure to write every day nor do I have to discuss any of my posts with people who know me. Perhaps someday I'll tell friends or family about my SA blog, but for now I like it this way.

Definitely. I would not feel comfortable writing about money otherwise... sort of a touchy subject with everyone I know.

my BF knows i have a finance blog, but he isnt that interested in it. i've told a few people about it, but never actually told thme which is my blog, or if i even have one. i use it to vent sometimes about non-financial things, so i wouldnt want anyone to read it that i knew.

My DH know that I blog here but like greengirl's BF, he isn't all that interested. Not many of my friends or family members are into personal finance so I doubt they would ever find me.

No one knows I blog. It's my secret. Though I have suggested to a few friends to check out this website...their finances and spending habits tell me they have not checked it out though.

I am technically one, but people in real life already know about my blog here.

I am also in the ranks of secret blogger. I think if others were aware, even if they were not necessarily reading my blog, it would make me feel weird about what I was writing.

I'm a "secret blogger" too. My husband knows, but no on else.

Me too. BF doesn't even know about my blog, but mostly because of the non-financial vents I have every now and then. Not necessarily about him, but sometimes about things his family does to hurt my feelings.

If my friends & family knew, I'd have to think very carefully before writing anything... and definitely wouldn't include as much detail about my finances.

I told my family, but I am glad they forgot about it because I talk about them on here. I even sent them an email with a link.

I mentioned this forum on another forum. But I was sorry that I did. Some of the not so nice people on the other forums have stalked me here and said nasty things. They have no interest in saving money, just being cruel.

    Yes.

My dh knows and I doubt he cares about my blog, but he could read it, I don't care either way. I have told no one else.

A few people have been found out (other bloggers) so I try to be mindful in my posts in case anyone stumbles across it. Just to watch what I say. Even though I post in depth financial detail once in a while (I feel it is important), I usually delete it soon after. I don't need a friend stumbling across it and seeing all my financial details.

Primarily yes...DH and maybe my sister know about it. Neither of them read it. It can be a hard secret to keep. I've almost brought it up on many occassions with friends, but have decided to keep my mouth shut.

My family knows, and they read it regularly. It's one of the ways I keep them up-to-date about our financial situation. A friend of mine who's in real financial trouble (worse than me, I'd say) knows about it, because when he was considering bankruptcy, I told him about it and gave him the link. He reads it regularly and started a blog of his own (on a different blogging site).

Another friend of mine knows about it because I sent her a couple humorous posts, and ended up telling her I was on the site too. She did mention she read my blog once and found it fascinating. I've no idea if she keeps up on it or not.

I really don't mind that much whether people know my financial situation. Correction: I don't want my dad to know, because he's such a frugal person and I think it would freak him out. He'd probably try to bail me out a bit, too, which I definitely don't want him to even think about.

But other people, I don't mind if they know. I got myself in this mess and I'm pretty open about my debt and my new frugal ways if finances comes up in conversation. I feel I could be a good example--both of what can happen if you're not smart with your money, and of how anyone can change their ways and improve their situation.

That said, obviously I use initials and cartoon pictures instead of my real identity, to maintain a certain amount of confidentiality. I'd rather only people I tell about the blog know, so I know they know. I'd feel weird if an old high school flame came across it and knew it was me and got some kind of schadenfreud out of it.
