I came across this interesting

Text is article and Link is http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/story.aspx?guid=%7B5B212D2A%2DA9EE%2D4D48%2DACA7%2D28A3A34BEC26%7D&siteid=rss#comments
article on Market Watch over my morning coffee... very timely just before the "Black Friday" kickoff to holiday spending.

I was surprised at how much the "average" person spends on holiday shopping. The article, "Recession-proof your finances," offers some good tips for saving money. How much do you plan to spend on your holiday shopping and are you doing anything differently this year?

Cash only, and cutting way down this year. Immediate family and my 2 best friends. That's it.

Thoughtful things, things you don't have to dust, and things that for the clever can do double duty. Love giving food, and I like the x of the month stuff. I'm seriously going to go to the grocery store, collect the single source chocolate bars and package those together for some lucky someone.

I really like giving food, too. You can't go wrong, especially if you know their preferences. I sometimes create a gift basket with a theme (e.g., Italian).
