She Devil

Ever since I was a small child, I have had a cat or two in my life. My cats have always been big mellow, gentle males with friendly personalities. Then TC wandered into my school about a year and a half ago and adopted me. And, most of the time I like her, although she has a bad "catitude" every so often. Today was one of those days.

My sweet little TC went to the vet this morning for her annual exam and vaccinations. Normally, she is calm and quiet riding in the car in her carrier, but today was the exception. How do cats know when they're going to the vet? She fussed in the car but became very quiet and still once we were in the waiting room.

When the technician weighed her, TC growled and hissed. Then when the doctor came in to begin the exam, she ran back in her carrier. When he took her out she became the cat from h*ll. She bit and scratched the doctor when he tried to listen to her heart and lungs. The doctor and I both looked as if we were wearing angora sweaters... the fur was flying everywhere.

The good news is TC is a very healthy 10.4 pounds, but she cannot gain more weight. The bad news is the exam cost $96 and the doctor has an ugly bite on his hand. The vet said TC will not need shots for three years. Hmmm... maybe he just doesn't want to see us again.

And TC? Well, she has been giving me the cold shoulder all day, acting as if I am not in the room and ignoring me completely.

hehe. i love that about cats, but at the same time it's what i also don't like. i grew up with cats, and so did DF, but we are more likely to get a dog now. not a big dog though, something smaller. my mum has a little maltese who acts exactly like a cat. she gets moody, she takes her time when being called, she hides and slinks around like a cat. when mum's partner also got a dog, my mums dog snubbed him for about three days. she would ignore him when he called to her, and growled at the little jack russell puppy. both dogs now 'exist' together, sometimes sleeping next to each other even, but the maltese is too 'good' for doglike things such as running in the backyard. it is funny to watch though!

yikes. i just adopted a cat about 3 weeks ago and i thought about pet insurance. instead a friend of mine suggestion i just open a bank account for the cat and put money in there for vet exams and pet emergencies.

i have yet taken her to the vet since she is up to date with her shots, but next year she will have to go...maybe i will take her in once this year, but it's not necessary. hope she doesn't get too worked up over the visit. she didn't like the car ride when we brought her home.

best to you and your pet

I don't take my cat to the vet. Unless she is ill anyway. I know she is healthier for it! & everyone around her is. Wink (The vet of course pushes shots but I've never seen the point for an indoor car. Though she is fixed and all that - done before I adopted her. Luckily I only had to take her in twice in 8 years. The 2-hour drive when we moved was not particularly fun either).

    Sounds fun! Wink
Ralph - cats are fine as long as you don't take them anywhere - then they are extraordinarily easy to live with - hehe.

I had a vet up here tell me I needed to bring her in once or twice a year for teeth cleaning. As if!

Ha ha ha... our 14 year old cat that we adopted three years ago was PURE HELL the couple times we tried to take her to the vet. There's actually a warning written right on our folder now! Her previous owner got the kitten shots, got her fixed, and that was it. Poor thing doesn't understand the vet at all and she wont talk to us for days afterwards. Since the vet didn't give us any suggestions (I was VERY unhappy with the service) we just don't take her in! My other cat hates it, but she doesn't hold a grudge.
